Tustin-based Virgin Galactic (NYSE: SPCE) completed its first private astronaut mission, which soared 55 miles above Earth to the edge of space this morning.
“Galactic 02 was a historic mission which flew the first Olympian, first female astronauts from the Caribbean, and the most women flown to space in a single mission,” the company said in a statement.
Virgin Galactic is counting on more missions for much-needed revenue.
Shares in Virgin Galactic were nearly unchanged at $3.33 apiece for a market cap of $941 million after the flight from the company’s New Mexico launch site.
