Military contractor Anduril Industries says its new Roadrunner jet-powered flying interceptor can be re-used and will lower the cost of air defenses.
Anduril presented the new vertical takeoff-and-landing system at a media event yesterday at headquarters in Costa Mesa. The interceptor, about 5 feet in height, could reshape air defenses for the U.S. and its allies.
“It is a bit of a new category,” Anduril founder Palmer Luckey told reporters. “It’s a missile that can give you that threat picture before you actually have to engage the target.”
The Roadrunner also has civilian uses, for instance in search-and-rescue operations.
